Concealed Carry on Idaho University and College Campuses

Effective July 1, 2014, an armed citizen in possession of an Idaho enhanced concealed weapons permit may carry a concealed firearm on the campuses of Idaho's public universities and colleges. Firearms are prohibited by law in dormitories and in entertainment facilities with seating for more than 1000 people. Federal law may prohibit the carry of firearms in some other buildings on campus.

For your convenience, the Idaho laws and university firearms policies are linked below. The policies for each university or college indicate those locations where concealed carry is prohibited. Read the policies carefully. Some of the administrators have designed firearms carry and storage policies with provisions that will be difficult to fully comply with. For example, some of the universities have prohibited even brief and accidental exposure of a concealed firearm even though it is not unlawful in Idaho.

Laws and Policies

There are many misrepresentations of Idaho Code 18-3302K and 18-3309 in the university policies below. The universities have claimed many things that aren't actually part of the law. Consult with an attorney before carrying on campus to ensure you don't violate the law.

Study the policies below and learn the law. Andrew Branca's book, The Law of Self-Defense, is a good place to start.

Public Universities and Colleges

Concealed carry is lawful on public campuses in Idaho, as allowed by Idaho Code 18-3302K, 18-3302H, 18-3309, and the policies of the universities and colleges.

Other statutes in Idaho Code Title 18 Chapter 33 regulate the possession and use of firearms in Idaho. The Idaho Attorney General provides a Concealed Weapons License FAQ.
